SafeGuard™ H2O Advanced Intelligent Water Treatment System
The SafeGuard™ H2O in-situ reagent generation technology is an advanced intelligent treatment solution that is driving down the lifetime costs of ownership and GHG emissions of water treatment. This NSF-approved technology provides significant cost savings and a rapid ROI for facilities seeking reliable treatment for corrosion control, drinking water, resource recovery and wastewater applications.
The fully automated SafeGuard™ H2O technology uses a certified precursor and an in-situ electrolytic generator to create a non-toxic reagent (stannous or ferrous) onsite and on demand. The process is simple, effective and sustainable. SafeGuard™ H2O features a compact modular design that easily integrates into existing infrastructure and low power consumption to support carbon reduction goals. SafeGuard™ H2O can be powered by renewable energy sources, and the reagents can be stored safely to enable electricity load balancing by end-users.
This advanced intelligent remediation system incorporates proprietary continuous, real-time monitoring of contaminant levels at the influent and effluent to ensure optimal treatment and compliance with regulatory and operational targets 24/7/365. The in-situ system can be fully controlled, monitored and optimized remotely; the presence of onsite staffing and supervision personnel is minimized.

A SafeGuard™ H2O demonstration system with a capacity of 3 gpm (150 mL/minute) was installed onsite for testing at the City of Banning’s Facility Well C2 from June-September 2022. The scope of this demonstration focused on the safe, reliable reduction of Cr6 to Cr3 using SafeGuard™ H2O electrogenerated stannous reagent. The demonstration validated the effectiveness of the SafeGuard™ H2O technology to treat Cr6 and Cr(T) below 10 ppb, granting it conditional acceptance from the California SWRCB Division of Drinking Water for use of the technology by public drinking water systems to treat Cr6 contamination.View Resource
A recent demonstration at the City of Banning, California, validated the effectiveness of the AMS SafeGuard™ H2O technology to treat Cr6 and Cr(T) below 10 ppb, granting it conditional acceptance from the California SWRCB Division of Drinking Water for use of the technology by public drinking water systems to treat Cr6 contamination. SafeGuard™ H2O generates a non-toxic stannous reagent on demand via an electrolytic process, offering utilities of all sizes an affordable, effective and sustainable Cr6 remediation solution.View Resource
In December 2022, the State of California published its long-awaited recommendation for a regulatory limit for hexavalent chromium (Cr6) in water of 10 ppb. According to the California State Water Resources Control Board, there are more than 2,600 community systems with elevated Cr6 levels serving nearly 13 million people. This proposed regulation unequivocally identifies AMS and its in-situ stannous generation technology, SafeGuard™ H2O, as the best available technology to treat Cr6 and provide safe drinking water to the millions of consumers across California, many of whom live in underserved communities. Watch the latest episode of AMS Talks featuring AMS CEO Rick Bacon and Industry Consultant Nadia Abboud who discuss how this proven and cost-effective solution can treat most of the wells with high Cr6 levels, giving a peace of mind to water utilities impacted by this new regulation.View Resource
In the Fall of 2022, the Joshua Basin Water District undertook a demonstration of the SafeGuard™ H2O technology to reduce Cr6 down to non-detect levels. SafeGuard H2O proved to be a highly automated process that provided accurate and reliable in-situ reagent generation to reduce Cr6 to below 1 ppb. The capability of SafeGuard H2O to consistently remove Cr6 to non-detect levels creates the opportunity for Joshua Basin Water District and other utilities to blend water from Cr6-contaminated wells and achieve overall system compliance. With SafeGuard H2O, the capital cost of bringing a system into Cr6 compliance can be mitigated by eliminating the need for treatment at all wells.View Resource
MetalGuard™ is the first fully automated online trace metals analyzer for monitoring municipal and industrial water and wastewater. The system provides real-time, multi-stream analysis for a range of trace metal contaminants.
MetalGuard delivers accurate and reliable results (up to 1 ppb or ± 15%, whichever is higher) with a typical measurement time of fewer than 30 minutes. The system also allows for manually collected samples to be analyzed.
MetalGuard™ Lead Alert!™
A novel automated and unattended real-time lead corrosion risk management system for monitoring the risk of exposure to lead contamination.
The analyzer provides rapid analysis of the safety of drinking water in homes, schools, day-cares exposed to the risk of lead contamination. It is designed to be used independently or in conjunction with SafeGuard™ Lead for rapid low-cost analysis of locations predicted to be at risk for an increase in contamination risk.
AMS Sr. Product Manager, Vladimir Dozortsev, Ph.D., offers a quick preview of the innovative SafeGuard™ H2O in-situ reagent generation system undergoing testing for NSF/ANSI 61 Standard. A 10 gpm SafeGuard H2O stannous generation system was used in the test. The fully automated system generates a reagent on demand, providing economical and reliable treatment of a wide range of contaminants for small and large water systems.View Resource
