Application Brief: SafeGuard™ H2O Hexavalent Chromium Treatment System Demonstration at Joshua Basin Water District
In the Fall of 2022, the Joshua Basin Water District undertook a demonstration of the SafeGuard™ H2O technology to reduce Cr6 down to non-detect levels. SafeGuard H2O proved to be a highly automated process that provided accurate and reliable in-situ reagent generation to reduce Cr6 to below 1 ppb. The capability of SafeGuard H2O to consistently remove Cr6 to non-detect levels creates the opportunity for Joshua Basin Water District and other utilities to blend water from Cr6-contaminated wells and achieve overall system compliance. With SafeGuard H2O, the capital cost of bringing a system into Cr6 compliance can be mitigated by eliminating the need for treatment at all wells.
SafeGuard™ H2O Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6) Demonstration at the City of Banning Water Treatment Plant
In search of a reliable and economical treatment solution for Cr6 contamination, the City of Banning undertook a demonstration of the SafeGuard™ H2O in-situ reagent generation system to remove Cr6 down to non-detect levels. The fully automated SafeGuard™ H2O technology uses a certified precursor and an in-situ electrolytic generator to create a non-toxic stannous reagent onsite and on demand. The process is simple, effective, and carbon neutral.
Los Banos, Calif. SafeGuard™ H2O Cr(VI) Treatment System Pilot Report
A SafeGuard™ H2O intelligent Cr(VI) remediation system demonstration unit with a treatment capacity of 10 gpm was installed with the City of Los Banos, California to evaluate the performance of the technology to treat Cr(VI) to non-detect levels (under 1 ppb) in unchlorinated well water. SafeGuard H2O is an innovative technology based on a proprietary approach that generates on demand a stannous ion reagent in-situ via an electrolytic process. The pilot with Los Banos provided confirmation of the technology’s efficacy and third-party validation of the SafeGuard H2O system as a cost-effective alternative to traditional Cr(VI) treatment systems. Results are detailed.
Bringing Innovative and Affordable Solutions to a Costly and Complex Problem
AMS is committed to bringing intelligent water remediation solutions that can be fully controlled, monitored and optimized remotely, while ensuring that these systems are more accessible to a wider sector of the population through affordable financial models. As such, AMS has offered an official response to a white paper — “Economic Feasibility Analysis in Consideration of a Hexavalent Chromium MCL” — published by the California State Water Board (SWB), who is engaged in a process of consultation to determine at what level the regulatory limit for Cr(VI) should be set. AMS’ position on Cr(VI) regulation and comments to SWB are summarized in this technical brief.
California American Water Manages Hexavalent Chromium Contaminant Levels in Real-Time
California American Water turned to AMS’s MetalGuard™ fully-automated, online multi-stream Cr(VI) analyzer to have higher visibility of Cr(VI) contaminant levels in real-time and allow them to better monitor and address critical steps in their remediation process.
Intelligent water treatment systems incorporate real-time sensing to ensure that their performance is optimized to avoid under- or over-treatment and that any deterioration in system performance is signaled to permit timely remedial intervention.
Online Water Quality Instruments Poised for Growth
Real-time data and analytical information from online instruments help utilities comply with water quality regulations. The complete article detailing how online water quality instruments are poised for growth was published in the March/April 2015 issue of World Water.
