What does this live ticker show me?
This tabular ticker displays readings from the MetalGuard™ Chromium, a fully automated online hexavalent chromium (Chromium-6) monitoring unit from Aqua Metrology Systems. The MetalGuard Chromium monitor is installed at the water treatment plant or in the distribution network to allow operators access to data on chromium levels as frequently as every half an hour. MetalGuard Chromium is capable of measuring hexavalent (chromium-6) and total chromium levels in real time.
The left hand column displays the date and local time (PDT) the reading was received. The right hand column identifies the concentration of Chromium-6 measured in parts per billion (ppb).
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency permits a total chromium maximum level of 100 ppb; however, California (State Water Resources Control Board) has a more stringent regulatory limit of 10 ppb.
- When Chromium-6 concentration levels are well within California’s regulatory compliance and below 8 ppb, the ticker will display Chromium-6 data in green.
- When Chromium-6 concentration levels reach 8 ppb the ticker display will change to amber to alert that the water supply has the potential of exceeding California’s regulatory compliance.
- When Chromium-6 concentration levels increase to 10 ppb the ticker display will change to red to alert that the water supply has exceeded California’s regulatory compliance.
The online MetalGuard Chromium analyzer enables water utilities to proactively manage their Chromium-6 mitigation strategies and ensure their water remains safe for human consumption.
